The Auchinleck Anglers Association is the oldest fishing club in Ayrshire and was established in 1883. The current membership boasts just over 70 adults, 60 juveniles and 10 Old Age Pensioners and includes several members who travel far (Leeds and Cumbernauld, for example) to fish in our waters.
The Association holds rights to 4 ½ miles of the River Lugar and 1 ½ miles of the River Ayr. Some of the best salmon, sea trout and trout can be found in our rivers. Salmon are showing a real upturn and two years ago was recorded as the best year for Salmon for many a long time (Even some of our OAP’s can’t remember better).
We also hold rights on the 4 ½ acre ‘Tarmac’ Loch where members and visitors can fish for Brown and Rainbow Trout and relax in the comfort of the facilities we have built there.
Competitions are always part of our programme and the Gavin Ramsey Souvenir Trophy event for juveniles, in particular, is always a great time for those who come along.
The Association is delighted that several younger members have joined the Committee for this year and look forward to their enthusiasm and youthful ideas.
Whilst we work towards the future, we are sorry to lose our President for the last 25 years, Myles McPheator, who has kept the Association together for all that time. All the Committee and Members would like to thank him for all that he has done and wish him all the best for his future.
